This season the Under 10’s Girls team have played some outstanding hockey which culminated on Sunday 17th April with them winning the North of England In2Hockey Championship Finals.
Having already won the North Yorkshire and Yorkshire round of this competition and also winning the U10 Girls Yorkshire Youth League, Thirsk added the North of England Trophy making it four from four!
Thirsk beat Neston 4-0 in their first game with goals from Josie Sample, Poppy Barlow and Tallulah Lascelles. Thirsk then went on to win comfortably against Carlisle and Ben Rhydding winning both matches 3-0. Again goals were scored by Poppy Barlow, Josie Sample, Keira Clements-Byrne, Katie Riddell and Tallulah Lascelles. In the semi-final Thirsk faced old rivals City of York winning 3-0.
Thirsk's last game of the season was to be the final in the North In2Hockey Championships against Crewe Vagrants. Thirsk conceded their first goal in 34 matches when Crewe took the lead in the first 5 minutes. The girls did not panic and came out winners scoring three goals in reply. Poppy Barlow smashed home a short corner and Keira Clements-Bryne scored two fantastic field goals. The defence was solid with Josie Sample and Nahia Karanka forming a stone wall at the back. Poppy Barlow and Katie Riddell ran the midfield and Katie Riddell’s runs down the right wing opened up every defence. Keira had the game of her life in the final supported by some determined and focused play from Violet Moody and Tallulah Lascelles. We must not forgot our two amazing keepers, Hattie Attwood and Emilia Reeve who when asked, always pull of the great saves.
Well done to all the girls, what a fantastic season.
