Sunshine and goals for first games of the season.

A fantastic team performance on the first outing of the season by the A team who played in glorious sunshine at Weetwood. In the first game against Brigg, Thirsk were rapidly out of the blocks and did not give Brigg time on the ball. A lovely combination down the right flank involving Joseph and Alex resulted in a cross from which Jack was able to convert with a relatively simple tap in. Thirsk maintained the pressure and got their reward when a rebound off a shot from Jack fell into Alex’s path who slammed home goal number 2. Thirsk went behind early against Slazengers owing to some absent defending but they got a grip and reversed the score line with good goals from Jack and Alex. In the end, Slazengers got off lightly with a 2-1 loss as Thirsk hit the post and had one effort cleared off the line before the final whistle went. Two goals from Jack secured a win against Doncaster, one of which was assisted by Joe Tart and the other was a great individual effort. The last game against Harrogate ended in a 1 nil victory as Alex flicked the ball coolly into the back of the net. The Harrogate keeper can be thanked for keeping his side in the game as he made save after save to keep the score down to 1 nil. Overall a great start to the season with 4 wins and with only 1 goal conceded, promotion to Division 2 was secured. All played well but in particular Joseph worked his socks off down the right flank and supported the defence too and clearly, with his 4 goals, Jack Foxley was in formidable form. Team was: Alex Valentine (GK), George Hunt, Teddy Hunt,
Jack Foxley, Joe Tart, Joseph O’Gorman, Alex Glegg, Rafi Carus-Huby.
Results:
v Brigg A (W 2-0) goals from Alex Glegg and Jack Foxley
v Slazengers A (W2-1) goals from Jack Foxley and Alex Glegg
