Thirsk consolidate their 3rd place.

This week Thirsk 2nds travelled to play Leeds Adel 3rds knowing anything less than a win may lose them their current position in 3rd. Thirsk started slowly with Adel having the majority of possession but not causing the Thirsk defence any problems. Thirsk eventually worked their way into the game and were unlucky not to take the lead after a run down the right by Libby who's cross just evaded the forwards. Holly was causing the Adel team problems with her runs through the middle and it was from one of these attacks that they took the lead. Holly found herself in the D on the left and hit a reverse stick strike past the Adel goalkeeper. Adel were not really creating chances with Grace, Penny and Jess winning the ball in midfield and moving the ball to Hannah up front but Thirsk could not add to the first goal. After a break by Adel they were awarded a short corner from which they equalised. The shot at goal beat Chelsea in goal and Lynne was unfortunate to not quite stop the shot on the goal line. Half time was 1-1.
In the second half Adel had spells of pressure with Thirsk disrupted from their game. Several balls were played into the D but with no end product. The only time the Adel forward beat the Thirsk defence of Lynne, Naomi, Oona and Hannah, Chelsea timed her run from goal and blocked the shot. Thirsk continued to attack looking for the winning goal and were rewarded when a shot from Libby looped up at the Adel goalkeeper who missed her chance to clear, Hayley was on hand to hit the ball home. Thirsk were now back in control and kept possession of the ball till the final whistle to win 2-1. Player of the match was awarded to Jess for her all-round play in midfield. Special mention to keeper Chelsea for making some ninja-esque saves to ensure Thirsk kept their lead. Thirsk's final game of the season is away to Skipton next week.
