The visiting team from Colne Valley start strongly.

This Saturday Thirsk 2nds had their first game back after a long Xmas break v Colne Valley. Losing 1-0 in the away match they knew it would be a close game and it turned out to be so.
Thirsk started poorly with passes going astray and struggled to create chances in the D. The lack of recent games showed. Colne Valley however were keeping the Thirsk defence and in particular Val in goal busy with Val making several excellent saves both with her feet and stick. Eventually Colne Valley capitalised with a shot at goal that the defender on the line was just unable to keep out. The away team further increased their lead to 2-0 before the half time break.
After a reshuffle at half time with several players changing position that included Fletch moving forward into midfield Thirsk appeared to get their game together. The midfield of Naomi, Georgie and Yaz were now creating and controlling the game. Thirsk won a series of short corners where they eventually pulled a goal back with a strike from Lynne which snuck under the goalkeepers foot. This gave Thirsk more belief and it was now Colne Valley who were struggling. Thirsk created a delightful move down the left, between several players, which was unfortunate in not finishing in a goal. Colne Valley had occasional breaks and unfortunately their forward chipped a goal past Val to increase their lead. This did not deter Thirsk who continued to attack with Hayley and Hannah causing problems for their defence. Thirsk scored another goal from a short corner strike from Lynne which flew into the bottom corner giving the Colne Valley goalkeeper no chance. This left the score at 2-3 at the final whistle, Thirsk again on the losing side by one goal only.
Player of the match was shared between Fletch and Naomi. We also need to mention Fern's excellent spell at right back!
