Thirsk Men’s 2nd Team had started with a 6-4 defeat to Driffield last weekend, so it was important to get a win under their belts away at Ben Rhydding. In an explosive first 12 minutes, Thirsk bolted into a 5-0 lead with 2 goals from Trevor Bosomworth, one each from Arthur Hunt, Tom Westgate, and a converted penalty stroke from Sam Bosomworth. The passing was quick and incisive, and the movement off the ball cut open their defence. Thirsk continued to torment Ben Rhydding for the rest of the half, with Arthur scoring 2 more goals, and without some fine saves from their Goalkeeper it could have been more.
The second half was equally dominated by Thirsk, with Sam, James Foster, Josh Dale and Alex Docherty, all playing well in support of Arthur who toyed and teased their defence and goalie whenever he could. Tom Westgate also played well, getting a second goal, but missing out on a hat-trick, and missing the ball with his attempted tomahawk. Thirsk’s defence did play well throughout, and were disappointed to concede a late goal, Nick Lane, Andrew Young, Jonathan Statham and Phil Radcliffe all looking assured at the back. However the man of the match performance from Arthur was completed with two more second half goals to give him 5 in the match, and complete a 10-1 victory for Thirsk.
