A good effort against tough competition.

On Sunday 11th November the U10 boys played 3 games in the first round of the In2hockey competition at York. This was always going to be a tough set of matches in particular against Harrogate and York A teams.
The first match was against York B, and Thirsk were strong, spending a lot of time attacking in York’s half of the pitch. The short corner practicing at training certainly paid off with Tom and Jude working well but unfortunately not quite getting a goal. After coming up to back up at a short corner Alistair hit a shot from the back of the D which was just wide.
The next game ended 2-0 to Harrogate. Thirsk did well, with the defenders having to work harder and providing some good clearances up the pitch. Our midfield and forwards worked hard too but unfortunately Harrogate were often stronger in midfield.
The final game ended 4-0 to York A with all the goals being very hard, fast hits from the back of the D. However, all the Thirsk boys should be very proud of their efforts. Jack had a very successful first match day as goalkeeper, confidently saving a lot of strong shots from York and Ned and Oliver S enjoyed their first taste of match hockey. After the hard work and the heavy rain showers, the boys will unfortunately not progress to the next round. But the games they played are a great training ground for their monthly meeting of the YYHL, with the next round on November 25th.
Well done boys and thanks to the parents as always for enjoying a wet morning in York!
