The boys welcomed York A on Sunday in their last group game of Tier 1 with match teas lined up afterwards as a special treat. The team are undefeated so far and we travel to Deeside Ramblers (Chester) in two weeks for round two of the Cup so this was our final preparation. We’re blessed with a large group this year - with 20 + training regularly - so selection is always a challenge.
The team started a bit slowly but within 10 mins got their box press working really well and controlled the game with confidence. Goals started to come from short corners and field goals with halftime finishing 5-1. Half time team talk focussed on everyone doing the simple things well and not trying to play too much hockey in our own half and it worked a treat. York rarely got into the Thirsk 23 and goals continued to flow with seven boys scoring and a real squad performance from all 16. Rufus made some excellent saves in both halves and our back four showed great control and ball recycling. Final score 14-2 and we secure our place in the supra league after Christmas with a 1st/2nd play off match against Ben Rhydding to look forward to.
It was great to host York players/parents for teas afterwards - thanks for all the parents who made that happen.
