U14 BOYS FIXTURE – DONCASTER HOCKEY CLUB
Thirsk’s second outing of the season saw them away in Doncaster. It was a particularly cold sunny morning in Doncaster.
There first game saw them pitted against Doncaster which we knew would be a tough game. Thirsk being mainly a year young struggled to keep their composure at times but they all worked as hard as they could for each other. The defensive line being constantly under the cosh from Doncaster. However Thirsk did manage to get the odd break away but were just unable to put the ball away. Result of this game a 2 nil loss.

After a two game break and a conversation on what they could do better Thirsk’s next game was against Leeds. The boys came out with the bit between their teeth and started well pressurising Leeds from the off. Leeds however did not lie down and they too fought hard and had chances to score. Thirsk did not give up and although again being at times scrappy in their play, in the second part of the game they had all the play and numerous chances to score, but would it go in the goal NO. The game finishing 0 – 0.

The final game of the morning was against Driffield and this game seemed to be where the Thirsk boys pulled it all together. It suited Thirsk to follow straight on with another game as they all played well, passing the ball around and using the spaces well. Again a number of short corners but Thirsk just could not convert. Driffield who had lost their previous two games and who had had a good talking too by their coach seemed to have also switched things on in the final game and managed to score two goals in quick succession. The boys did not let this affect them and with sheer determination they battled away to draw level. This was the turning point in the game and Driffield seemed to run out of pace and Thirsk scored a further 2 goals to end the game on a 4 – 2 win, scorers being Alex 2, Matty 1 and Jack 1.

These results will keep Thirsk in the second division of the Yorkshire Youth League for the next round of games in December.

On the 19th November will see Thirsk playing in the England Hockey U14 Cup games happening at Ben Rhydding HC.
