Thirsk 2 v Otliensians

Thirsk started with Marianne in goal, A back 5 consisting of Kate, Sarah, Libby, Jess and Hattie, Then a midfield 3 of Gaynor, Olivia and Sheryl with Millie and Bev up top. Subs today were Anna and Jo.
We had a slow start being put under immediate pressure by a young strong opposition. But we defended really well with Marianne making some important saves and the defence making goal stopping blocks and tackles. Thirsk struggled to get into the opponent’s D but managed to get to halftime all square at 0-0.
Jo gave the usual inspiring half time team talk, which seemed to have the desired effect as the Ladies took the game to Otliensians and started to create chances.
With 15 mins to go, Millie went on a banana run down the wing, pulled the ball back to Olivia, who played the ball into the D, which was met by Libby, who scored with a superb reverse chip over the keeper to give Thirsk a deserved goal for their 2nd half efforts. It was all hands to the pumps for the last 15 mins, with Thirsk getting breakaways to create more chances. In the last minute we were denied a 2nd goal after a fine run from Millie, who cut it back to Bev, who struck it superbly but the keeper made a fantastic full length save.
The performance could be described as a text book away performance, defending superbly and hitting on the break. Again all the girls deserve a pat on the back for their efforts. Player of the match was close between a number of players but Libby got the final decision.
