A tough first game to start the season.

It was the 1st game of the new season in Division 2. With basically a whole new team, it was never going to be easy against an experienced Bingley team.
Bingley started off strongly, with Thirsk struggling to find their rhythm, Bingley were awarded a short corner and with a well struck hit which was finished off by the player on the post, They opened the scoring on 7 mins. Thirsk were in danger of being over run but were superbly defended by Kate and Sarah, Also Marieanne made some important saves. Thirsk were happy to get to halftime without conceding again.
At halftime Jo Lightfoot got to work on the team, deciding a new formation was the answer.
This seemed to suit the players, who started the 2nd half much stronger but unfortunately conceded from another short corner. This didn’t deter the Thirsk side, which were being driven on by the impressive Jess Merrin, ably supported in midfield by Lynne and Millie but unfortunately they could not get that important goal.
The score remained 2-0, not a score that Thirsk deserved. They all gave 100% and could not be faulted on their attitude.
Player of the Match went to Jess Merrin
