Thirsk had been warned that Marton Furness could field a strong team, but finished the first half as 8-1 leaders when every goal chance seemed to be converted. Thirsk started well against a zonal defence (in that no-one seemed to be marked), but were pegged back after an early goal. After that, the flood-gates opened with Jake's pace wreaking havoc, Joseph working hard to find space and chase down loose balls, Harry and Matty dominant in midfield and the ball moved side to side across the back 4.
Thirsk took some sleeping pills at half time (your correspondent will not give that team talk again) and allowed Marton time on the ball, some short corner practice and plenty of goal scoring opportunities, thus giving Oliver in goal some game time for his match fee. It's odd when the goalie takes the plaudits after conceding 5, but he made a string of good saves in the second half to stop Thirsk sinking further.
Final score was 10-5 for a first win in the Summer League.
